My New Favorite Running Shorts: Moving Comfort

I run a lot of miles.

I have one desire when I am running: to be comfortable. I can get through any run as long as I am comfortable. I love running in the winter because I love wearing running tights. When I run in tights my legs don't have any chafing issues, they are comfortable and I am not irritated.

This summer I enjoyed running in my shorts early, but after my injury and small weight gain I found I had a little jiggle in between my thighs. It bothered me to wear all of my favorite running shorts. It made me miserable on long runs.

I went into Marathon Sports when they opened up a store on the south shore finally :) Woohoo for a store in Mansfield right near me!!!

So I so happened to see a pair of Moving Comfort shorts.

I was really skeptical, mainly because I have tried other brands of compression shorts and they failed me in one way or the other. Either they made me have to pee constantly because they were too tight in the tummy, or they rode up as I moved and never stayed put.

I must admit, I LIVE in them now!! They even are a must when I am doing crossfit hehe

I could not believe how well they fit, it felt like I was wearing my pajama shorts not restricting like typical compression shorts. They never budged, I mean no riding up, no chafing on my legs nothing. I even wore them through a run in the rain and they still felt amazing.

I do not think I will run in anything but these now. Seriously I am a convert!!

They have a bonus too a back zipper pocket big enough for a key and gel even my mp3 player fits in there. I seriously have only one issue, I need a few more pairs lol

I do not know what more could a curvy runner ask for? Not much :)

Ultra Marathon Training Check In

How is training going?

Why on earth would you want to run for that long?

Pretty much the 2 biggest things I hear lately :)

I have gotten used to both. What I have also gotten used to is feeling exhausted. I attribute this to many things, oh being a single mom, working full time, trying to do a million things every day perhaps? cross training too much in addition to running? But I just would not be me if I did not do all of the above.

But really, I am loving the ultra running training plan and just plain running more. I did miss running more, as did my body. My weight I gained from injury is coming off very nicely again. I am down to 167 already and I feel very good about being able to get to 155 racing weight by the time October hits.

Ultra training is really not much different from marathon training. The biggest change is I am not focusing so much on speed but more on miles getting done. I do 3 runs back to back during the week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and then run on Saturday and Sunday. This is the big change not alternating run days. The main reason for this is it forces your body to adapt to running on tired legs. So usually my mid week runs are a string of 7,5,7 or 9,5,7 or something. I am following a great training plan in the book I read:

Relentless Forward Progress is a great book with some good training plans.

The long runs have been going well. Last weekend I nailed a 22 miler at a good racing pace. This week was recovery week so my mileage was lighter I ran 6.4.6 during the week and 6 and 18 over the weekend. By Sunday that 18 was a fight though. I had to grind out every single mile. It was a total mental push to get through it. I realized that it is exactly what this training cycle is all about. learning how to push through when the going gets tough. In ultra marathoning you have a choice: stick it out and finish your race or quit and stick to marathons. Really this is how I see it. To be able to run for 30-50 miles it does not take much more than a stubborn will and some fuel.

I know that I can handle the distance, now I just need to work up the guts to be able to grind through it on tired achy lead legs.
