My Road Id Goes With Me

I am so behind on product reviews! SO bear with me I think the next few weeks Thursdays and or Fridays will be review days :)

I just have found some great tools and I want to share them with you!

First up we have my Road ID! I ordered my road id when I got a coupon in one of my race goody bags. i was particularly excited when I saw they had a new slim band out. For me this was the best choice. I hate to be bogged down with shit when I am running and especially during my long summer warmer runs.

Basically a road id is just a bracelet with your name, dob, and emergency contacts. Then there is an option to add anything else like allergies, medical conditions and a slogan. It just makes sense to be safe. I like to run far away from the house sometimes I go through several towns before I get back home, if anything ever happened to me I would not be easily identified by emergency personal because I do not carry much when I run.

Road Id made sense for me and it made T feel a little bit better about me out running alone. It makes me feel safer too. If anything happens I know my family will be called right away and I will receive the proper medical treatment.

So I ordered a road id and guess what? I ordered wrong size for myself, I got a small when I should have gotten a medium. No big deal right? Well I panicked a bit but I emailed the road id team and within 24 hours I had a response and a new correct size in the mail, no questions asked. I really appreciate it when a company has awesome customer service!!

I love my road id I must admit I really do not even realize it is there hehe so I am guilty of wearing it all the time.

You can tell how small it is in this pic! That little purple band is it! See not in the way at all :)

I knew it was tough when it survived the Spartan Race!!!

After doing a race in the rain and the Spartan it got me thinking, if something ever happened to me during a race it would take time to identify me too. With a road id there is not worry, my information is right there on my hand. Even when at the gym, it is there.

But my main point here is this. When you are out there working out outside be safe! For me it was a no brainer, I know if anything happens to me at anytime I can get the best possible chance of getting help and my family being able to get to me as quickly as possible.

Do you carry some form of ID when exercising outside?

{ Road Id did not ask me to review this, nor send me anything as incentive. I bought one with my own cash and felt the need to share ;) }

The Loose Skin Post

I get asked constantly where is the loose skin, where did the weight go?

I guess I did not realize it in the beginning. Because I was just so freaking excited to be shrinking.

You see when you start out at 272 pounds you think of weight loss as a way to desperately be free of your stifling fat body, or at least for me that is how it began. I wanted to fit into some skinny jeans. I wanted to look like my size 0 sister. That is all.

So I began like this:

I obviously had stretched out my skin pretty far to be carrying around 272 pounds on my 5'5 frame. But I did not realize how much damage I was doing until I began losing weight.

I lost an average of 8-10 pounds a month for 15 months. I lifted hand weights at the beginning and did cardio. I always stuck with both weights and cardio through the journey because I liked seeing the results.

So what is the after math of going from being obese, giving birth, weighing almost 300 pounds and now down to 155 all in less that 2 years?

Where is your skin? As I have been asked many many times?

There it is. My belly button is no longer visible, it looks more like a frown. I have ab muscles but they are hidden by the loose skin. I can crunch a million times a day but that skin will probably never go completely away.

I know I am lucky, I know many have it a lot worse, and I am not whining much but all I am saying is I do wish I had learned about being healthy a lot sooner. I do really wish I did not let it get so bad that my skin would be damaged too.

But I will not live with regret. I decided I will keep working my ass off and running to be faster and stronger. I will keep lifting and work on my body. I may not be able to rock a bikini anytime soon but I can rock this new shirt which I have come to adore :

More Spartan Race Pictures

Just a few more pictures from the Spartan race that I wanted to share with you all :)

Can you tell how hard the barbed wire was? The worst was the uphill climb of it!

This picture says it all to me really, I am still smiling at the end of the race! You can tell I actually really do enjoy all this shit hehe

This is the classic leaping through fire shot! It is what we spartans lived for that day ;)

I love looking at my race pictures. On tough training days and when I feel like I cannot possibly finish another grueling day I just look at one of them and it reminds me of what I am fighting for :)

Do you like looking at your race photos?

Marathon Training Week 11

This week lucky number 11!!!

This week was tough I just was tired. After the 20 miler last Sunday it just seemed like it took me a few days to recover.

Monday- I took my first rest day in 120 days. Yes I know. Rest is important, rest does the body good. But honestly I go into my groove of getting a workout in every single day that I forgot about rest. I really did not feel I needed it and till this point in training maybe I did not. But after that 20 miler I needed it! So on Monday I did not workout, did not do any exercise. It felt good for my body, but my mind missed that stress reliever.

Tuesday- I got out for a jog with Peanut in the jogging stroller after work. We got in 3 miles in a half hour and then I headed inside to do the Spartan WOD.

Wednesday- This was a 40 minute crossfit workout at the ymca. We did sprints up stairs and push ups, sprints and squats, and over head lunges. It was pretty good.

Thursday- Got up at 5am and headed out for a run. Did 6.2 in an hour and 3 minutes and honestly it sucked. The whole run was just blah and I was glad it was over when it was.

Friday- 2 workouts today! Got a 2 mile treadmill run done early in the morning in 17 minutes. Then I headed back to the gym at 5:30 that night for crossfit. We tested out fitness levels and I ran a 6:14 mile on the treadmill!!! It was great. We also did some burpees, push ups and fun stuff! I graduated to 20# dumb bells for my ground ups too :)

Saturday- Kind of a rest day for me. I headed to the gym and met with a personal trainer. I did squats, dead lifts, negative pull ups, sumo dead lifts, and lat pull downs. Did multiple sets over an hour.

Sunday- Supposed to do 8 one mile repeats today, but only got 4 done. I headed out and felt good did the first 2 each around an 8 minute per mile pace. Then halfway through the third one I began receiving sharp pains in my Achilles tendon that were shooting up my leg. I was in tears during the 4th one and I realized I had to stop. I regrouped got a drink and headed out for a 9:30 minute per mile pace and ran my other 4 miles just having fun. This made a big difference.

I learned this week that rest is important and it does a body good. I plan to rest the day before my long run on Saturday and see if it helps. No races that day like Spartan last time ;)

This week should be interesting. I am not doing the crossfit classes at the ymca so I plan to do some work on my own at home and weights at the gym at least once a week again. And the weekend will bring a 23 mile run!

How is your training plan going for your fall event?
