My All Pro Science Vegan Protein Review

So I was on the hunt for a completely vegan and gluten free protein shake. I know I do not usually like to drink my calories but when I started marathon training, going paleo and doing cross fit I knew I needed to find a way to get a recovery of protein in after my workouts.

I asked a few people I know and an athlete recommended All Pro Science. I researched it and I liked what I saw:

All-Pro Science Complete Veggie Protein combines 23g of all-natural plant based proteins into a great tasting blend that’s fortified with vitamins, minerals and flax seed. The unique veggie protein formula is specially formulated from high-quality pea, brown rice and hemp proteins to provide you with the unique benefits of each.

Complete Veggie Protein is gluten-free and free of allergens found in dairy, soy and wheat-based products. Whether you are a vegan or simply looking to get more nutrients from plants, our lean formula is low in sugar and contains no fillers, artificial flavoring or sweeteners. That means when you take APS® protein you know what you’re putting in your body.

Basically it is allergen free and simple! I need that. I am tired of stressing about reading labels and wondering what is best. I saw that this contains no artificial sweeteners, is plant based, and also has calcium. Cheryl recommended the vanilla flavor so of course I went with that! I ordered a jug and waited patiently for mail :)

It came and to my surprise they included samples and a shaker bottle as well!

It was great!

As you can see the nutritional break down.

So how was it?

Well I may have a paleo pallet now and enjoy things that are natural but it was great!!! I blended it with a cup of unsweetened almond milk the first time and it was tasty. No planty taste at all which is what I feared.

I made a smoothie with a frozen banana and plain almond milk one morning after a longer run.

I got really creative and froze coffee in an ice cube tray. After my long run I made a smoothie with the coffee ice cubes and vanilla unsweetened almond milk. It was so nice!

I think I have found my new love in this protein shake, it just is the perfect end to a workout whether its running or cross fit. It is like a treat and I do not feel like I am having a protein supplement its more like a milk shake!

I definitely will be re ordering All Pro Science and sticking with it this summer while I train for my first marathon. I recommend trying it and you can try it for free at their website! I have not seen a protein supplement offer to send you free samples before, this tells me they stand by their product.

My major issue is waiting for it to come online because you cannot buy it in any stores in my area :(

How do you recover from a workout? What do you use?

***I purchased this with my own money and chose to share my review with you on my own I was not compensated in any way***

How Fitness Changes Relationships

Well the wonderful ladies at Fitness Blog World have another post idea this week and I love it!

How has fitness changed your closest relationships? For good, for bad, or both?

Fitness has changed my life completely, so it is no surprise that it has also changed my close relationships.

For my family it has made me a better mother and partner. Before I started working out I was depressed and bitchy all the time. No really, my life was dismal and I was not fun to be around. I really do not know how I lived for so long so miserable. I guess it was not all bad but I do know one thing:

I am finally living!

I am happier after a workout. I am much much less stressed. I know my relationships within my family are stronger and better now that I am happier and healthier. Your good mood is contagious and I am seeing this is true more and more. When I start my day with a run or workout it always goes much smoother. And when I am happy the people around me seem to be ;)

As a mom I know I am growing a stronger foundation for my daughter. We go out for runs with her in her jogging stroller and she truly loves those times. She comes home some nights and flat out demands we go running, and this warms my heart. As she gets older she is wanting to be outside more and more and has even started to want to run in her own way outside. I can only hope that she will continue to grow and become active so she never has to worry about anything like I did.

At work it has been very fun getting active! I have even inspired a few of my coworkers to start getting active again and some have run some races with me. There is nothing that gives me more joy than to see people feed off positive energy and start to change their own lives. I hope to start a running club soon and get them all involved, I think it could be a lot of fun. It goes back to motivation being contagious.

I have become so enthusiastic about being healthy and getting active and really turning my life around that I cannot help but share my story. When people see me and do not recognize me this is how it comes out. And then the more they see me getting excited about races and planning events, the more they want to become involved. It makes me so excited to have new running friends too!

How has fitness changed relationships for you?

Why I love Cross Fit Style Workouts

The YMCA that I belong to has started a new program called 'Y-Fit' it is basically their own version of the popular CrossFit style workouts.
So what is crossfit I get asked a lot.

Really it is just an intense cardio and strength based workout. You get to beat up your body for about 40 minutes. Every time we go the workouts are different and I love that. It keeps your body guessing and it is never boring!!! It is like boot camp on over drive.

The first time I went I learned how much a plyo jump hurts your quads and the trainer worked with me to teach me how to teach my body to do a chin up. My new goal is to do at least 5 by the end of the summer. I can jump up and do slow lowering and she says this is the way to begin. We also did jump pulls and I have those down.

We work with weights sometimes as well. Once night we did kettle bell swings and I managed to swing a 26 pound bell for the first time! I know I can swing more than that since peanut is up to 30 pounds and demands to be swung around all the time lol.

There is also lots of squats and plank work! I love me some plank work and we get plenty if it during cross fit. One night we did over 100 push ups during the session. I love how we work through quick short bursts of work over 30-90 seconds and push our bodies past plateaus. One night we were doing sprints on the treadmill and I ran the fastest I have ever! 1:25 for a 1/4 mile, it was a proud moment for me.

I plan to keep doing crossfit for the next few months as my main cross training and strength training routine on the days during the week when I do not run. I hope it keeps my guns strong and even growing a bit.

I could not resist snapping a few pics of them last night after class I felt so strong and proud.

Just thought I would include a snap shot of where I was 2 years ago and show you why I am so happy and proud of my arms hehe it has taken a lot of work!! I started this journey hoping to lose weight and fit into smaller clothes, I am amazed at how strong I have become and how much I have changed. I feel like I have not only lost weight but also become an athlete all at the same time. It has been a great experience and I am so grateful for the journey thus far and I am excited to see what the future holds :)

Marathon Training Week 5!

Can we really be 5 weeks into training for a marathon already???
Well time flies when you are having fun I guess haha

I had a good week. It was not really too warm outside so I was able to be comfortable for most of my runs.

Monday was cross training. I went to my cross fit style class at the YMCA. It was pretty goo the trainer pushed our quads in the beginning with heavy resistance spinning for about 15 minutes. Then it was push ups, leg raises, bridges, and wall sits with squats for the remainder of it. A pretty tough 40 minutes!

Tuesday I woke up early and went for a 3 mile run. It was tough, my legs were sore. When I came home that night Peanut was begging for a buggy run so we headed out into the heat and I knocked out 2.5 more miles in 30 minutes. I like doing these runs sometimes it is great bonding for us too.

Wednesday I went to the YMCA for the cross fit style class. This one was more intense. We were challenged to do intervals. I ended up running 7 1/4 mile sprints on the treadmill in 1 minute and 25 seconds!! I could not believe it. It felt good to be so fast even if it was just for a short burst.

Thursday was just a simple early morning 3.2 mile run in 31 minutes.

Friday I ran with Dan aka cubicle dad. It was so much fun! We did about 7 miles in an hour and 10 minutes. It did not even feel like work, when you run with other people it is always more fun.

Saturday I was feeling good so I went out early in the morning for a quick 5k run. I set out on my usual loop around my neighborhood and ended up surprising myself with how fast I was able to go. I managed it in 23 minutes and 30 seconds!! I learned that training for speed is easier on a completely empty stomach. I did not have time to eat before this run and it paid off well.

Sunday! The big long run day!!! I woke up late around 6:30 AM so I was not too happy. I wanted to be up at 5am and beat the heat. But I was not able to but it was ok. I had a great run and it was warm but I managed! I did 13 miles in 1 hour and 58 minutes!! I cannot wait for my first Rock n Roll race in a few weeks!

After the run I was pretty hot and tired but it felt good to push through and get it done!

I love my Polar HRM it is the FT 60. It really does push me to pust past new fitness levels.

How was your training this past week?
