Don't Wait For Monday

Everyone asks me lately how I did it, why I did it, what keeps me going, etc. It is a funny thing losing 120 pounds since I had my daughter 20 months ago has taught me so very much and made me such a different person. I love the new me.But that is for a later post hehe

I am talking to you today about the how.

Success for me has been hard it is not always easy. Losing this much weight requires a total transformation of mind and body. It has taken 20 months and I am still learning and trying to focus on certain things. But for me what has always made me most successful is remembering this Mantra: Don't wait for Monday.

What I mean is this: we all have slip ups, you will have a mistake now and then. Bit you cannot let that mistake snowball into a bad day, then a bad week, etc. You get my point. Sometimes when we eat poorly we say ok well I will get back on track tomorrow, or its the weekend I will wait for Monday.

My motto is no. I made a mistake yes but I will not allow it to derail all of my progress, I will not let it bring me down for the rest of the week. I will make better choices for the rest if the day and I will be ok. If you catch yourself before you spiral put of control often that 1 bad meal will not even affect you much at all.

Do not wait to start living healthy. Do not say ok the diet starts Monday. Ok I will join the gym June 1st.

Nope go out right now today and start making changes, you deserve to be healthy and happy :)

My First Pair of Vibram FiveFingers

For quite some time I have seen several of my awesome bloggy friends rocking the Vibrams and always wondered what they were like and dream of owning a pair some day. I went to the Boston Marathon expo when it was in town 2 weeks ago and I finally tried a pair on! I got properly fitted by their awesome team down there and started to get excited that my wide feet might actually be able to rock a pair one day!

Then about a week ago an email comes into my in-box just tempting me: Vibram FiveFingers on Sale at City Sports!!! I had to click the link, I had to see what was on sale.... And much to my glee I saw the hot pink Vibram FiveFingers Performa for women on sale!! Now you may or may not know how much I love bright hot colors and hot pink being my favorite! So you can imagine how much I wanted that pair of shoes.

I debted for a few days on whether or not to get them, I had several questions in my mind. Ones like: can I really run barefoot? Am I going to hate the feeling? What will people think when they see them?

Finally last week I said to myself look they are half the price of your normal running shoes (new balance) so give them a shot and if you hate them I am sure someone will take them lol. So I ordered them!!!

I was beyond excited when they arrived I took them out for 2 test walks/jogs so far!

I must admit I have gotten a few side ways glances lol but my neighbor thinks they are cute! She appreciates the hot pink I think ;) Hey you know what? I love them!!!!!! That to me is all that counts anymore these days anyways! Sometimes I still think like old me and worry what people will be whispering behind my back, but usually I can snap myself out of it! I am glad I ordered these it was a well spent $50!!! And yes if you are thinking about buying them the sale right now is amazing click on the link I left above!

So how do they feel is what everyone is asking!

I like how my foot feels the ground more, I actually felt I had more control over my stride. My knee was not bothered by them!!! For me that is most important. They are tricky to get on and I am learning to wiggle my toes around better. But so far I have run a mile in them and walked a 1/2 mile in them. I would love if any Vibram pros could leave me some feed back on how they transitioned into them and how far they run in them. I am hoping they help eliminate my knee pain once and for all!

My only issue so far seems to be my heel, I am so used to wearing socks they rub up against it and irritate my skin right there. I will try some body glide over that area next time I take them out for a spin. My plan is to do a mile in them running 3 times a week for the next 2 weeks then up it to 2, etc etc adding a mile every 2 weeks.

Have you had any experience with barefoot running? What are your thoughts? I would love to know!!

Chocolate Pumpkin Souffle

I live with a "twig" as my Weight Watchers leader Stacy calls them. LOL basically I live with someone who can eat whatever he wants whenever he wants and never gain an ounce. It is a challenge especially when you are the person who cooks twig all of their calorie rich junk food. I have chosen to live a healthy life style but he has not changed his love of fried plantains, rice pilaf, chicken thighs, cake, peanut M&Ms, pizza, frosted flakes, ramen noodles, etc you get the idea. So often I am cooking 2 things one for me and peanut and one for him. It is ok I am used to it. Honestly we cannot eat much of his gluten filled food anyways so its easier to say no. Although its funny your taste buds evolve and i cannot even get steak in my mouth now the taste is revolting. Peanut did not even eat a piece of her Easter candy, she is not into sugar at all and I am not complaining ;)

So when it comes to dessert sometimes I want it especially when I am baking a butter golden cake that smells amazing. So Sunday I came up with this quick easy pumpkin recipe I can make after whipping up his cake and I enjoyed it a lot!

So here is the results he got the cake and I got the souffle :

The ingredients:
1/2 can of canned pumpkin
1/3 cup of egg whites
2 table spoons of baking cocoa
1/3 cup of almond milk
truvia to taste

All I did was mix it all together and bake it in a crock pan for 45 minutes or so on 350 right in the over with the cake. Super easy and super yummy!

The entire crock is 3 points plus!!!!!!!! I will take that over a 5 point sliver of cake any day ;)

Do you have to create separate meals at home for your family?

New Sisterhood Challenge May My Way!

The Sisterhood has a new challenge beginning in May and I must admit I love the idea of it.The May Your Way challenge is all about getting on track and getting healthy for summer time :)

May Your Way Challenge

For me May is all about healing my knee and preparing for my half marathon on May 29th to benefit the American Cancer Society.  This run will be the most special to me because I am doing it in memory of my late grandmother who had lung cancer.

May is a super busy month for me. I had the walk for hunger today.
Wednesday is a fundraiser I am helping to host at Uno's for my Cancer run on May 29th. So if any of my local bloggers want to come feel free ;) it will be at 5PM at Uno's in Waltham, MA on Bear Hill Rd. You can email me if you are coming and need more info!
Next Saturday on the 7th I am running a 5K to help raise money for autism.
Then May 19th I leave for Fitbloggin!!!! I am very excited about that!!! Its a busy weekend I am running a 5K at fitbloggin and then it is 5K day for weight watchers so on May 22 I will be doing a 5K with my weight watchers buddies.

And then a week later I will be running the whole half marathon for Grandma.

Just thinking about it I get over whelmed I look at my planner filled up with these events and some of my own personal events going on. We have doctor appointments for peanut, and I have physcial therapy for my knee so needless to say everyday there is something going on it seems.

So in May it is super important for me to plan ahead with my eating and stay on track. I also need to schedule in my workouts and make sure I keep doing what I need to do to be ready to run that whole 13.1 on the 29th! For May my Way it could not come at a better time!

So my goals for this challenge:
-To keep training and rack up at least 100 miles this month.
-To get rid of the last 4 pounds I seem to be hanging on to that is keeping me from hitting my life time goal weight for weight watchers.
-To hit a new PR time for a 5K of 23:45 my 5K yesterday was right around there and I want to make sure I can keep doing sub 5Ks :)
-To keep going with my 100 day chip quest to workout for 100 days strait

Have you signed up yet for the May Your Way Challenge yet?

Will you be chatting with us on Monday nights on the hood?
