Marathon Training Week 11

This week lucky number 11!!!

This week was tough I just was tired. After the 20 miler last Sunday it just seemed like it took me a few days to recover.

Monday- I took my first rest day in 120 days. Yes I know. Rest is important, rest does the body good. But honestly I go into my groove of getting a workout in every single day that I forgot about rest. I really did not feel I needed it and till this point in training maybe I did not. But after that 20 miler I needed it! So on Monday I did not workout, did not do any exercise. It felt good for my body, but my mind missed that stress reliever.

Tuesday- I got out for a jog with Peanut in the jogging stroller after work. We got in 3 miles in a half hour and then I headed inside to do the Spartan WOD.

Wednesday- This was a 40 minute crossfit workout at the ymca. We did sprints up stairs and push ups, sprints and squats, and over head lunges. It was pretty good.

Thursday- Got up at 5am and headed out for a run. Did 6.2 in an hour and 3 minutes and honestly it sucked. The whole run was just blah and I was glad it was over when it was.

Friday- 2 workouts today! Got a 2 mile treadmill run done early in the morning in 17 minutes. Then I headed back to the gym at 5:30 that night for crossfit. We tested out fitness levels and I ran a 6:14 mile on the treadmill!!! It was great. We also did some burpees, push ups and fun stuff! I graduated to 20# dumb bells for my ground ups too :)

Saturday- Kind of a rest day for me. I headed to the gym and met with a personal trainer. I did squats, dead lifts, negative pull ups, sumo dead lifts, and lat pull downs. Did multiple sets over an hour.

Sunday- Supposed to do 8 one mile repeats today, but only got 4 done. I headed out and felt good did the first 2 each around an 8 minute per mile pace. Then halfway through the third one I began receiving sharp pains in my Achilles tendon that were shooting up my leg. I was in tears during the 4th one and I realized I had to stop. I regrouped got a drink and headed out for a 9:30 minute per mile pace and ran my other 4 miles just having fun. This made a big difference.

I learned this week that rest is important and it does a body good. I plan to rest the day before my long run on Saturday and see if it helps. No races that day like Spartan last time ;)

This week should be interesting. I am not doing the crossfit classes at the ymca so I plan to do some work on my own at home and weights at the gym at least once a week again. And the weekend will bring a 23 mile run!

How is your training plan going for your fall event?

Thanks for joining me in ending the "do something" streak last week. :) I was in a funk all week, but I know my body needed it. It's a wise decision to completely stop every so often, especially at this stage of marathon training.

Yes I am glad the streak is over :) marathon training is getting intense and our bodies need a rest day every now and then ;) Thanks for the support!
