Going Paleo?

Well I begin marathon training in a few days. I know it still sounds kind of scary, exciting, intimidating, humbling, terrifying, all of the above!!!

I'm at goal weight well .4 away for weigh watchers but I would like to drop 10 more pounds before the marathon and lose some more body fat. I got a caliber to measure and used the army guidelines as well. The caliber puts me at 22% and army puts me at 26%. Either way im in the 20s which is phenomenal compared to where I came from, but I want to be in the upper teens for the marathon. I want to be lean and trim so I can put less stress on my joints and be a lil faster ;)

My plan is to stay on weight watchers and become lifetime but I also want to do the paleo diet as much as possible. I have been researching it for some time and have come to the conclusion that it can only help me become more grounded with my eating and trim some body fat. Basically it focuses on cutting out grains and dairy among other things and eating natural clean foods. I do the no dairy already, I don't do much grains having celiac, so really it will not be too bad (I hope) to get into.

I am opening up to you all in hopes of a discussion going here. Have you tried paleo? Do you like it yes or no and why etc. Just share your thoughts I would greatly appreciate it :)

Paleo has a lot going for it I think. I'm kinda leaning that way and finding when I really cut the grains I feel better, lighter and lose a little. If I add back even a very small portion - bloat & stall. Interesting research isn't it? Following your progress all the way and cheering you on girl!!

so then is it mostly a carniverous...plan? what about rice as a grain? i am trying to eliminate non-natural foods, too, but i have come to really like things like GenerationUCAN, nuun, and Clif Bars. I don't eat many processed foods, but am a bit shy about letting go of my whole grains...
Marathon training starts! holy wack-o you're RIGHT!
we gotta DO THIS!!!!

I just read the entire Paleo book and went to his website....after I saw another blogger do well on it. It's interesting and simple - if your ancestors didn't eat it - you shouldn't either...but seems too tough to me...but smart. Good luck.

I love you Brooke always keeping an eye on me ;) I promise I will be careful

Thanks Allyson I am almost there just making a few smaller changes this weekend!

I hear ya Gene it is a lot to give up. I am learning about it all and with the celiac etc I am barely doing grains as is so it will be a more natural/easy change for me.
Yes marathon training begins!!! woot woot :) #nomorebs lets do it

thanks Drazil keep me updated on how its going for you

Thanks Mel, its just a focus on clean eating, no grains, dairy etc. Very simplified.

Good luck with the Paleo. Will you be eliminating things like legumes and potatoes too?

I've never trained for a marathon, but I know from friends that it is suprisingly hard to lose weight while training, because you are demanding so much for your body. Of course, if can be done!
On the paleo diet, I don't really know much about it, but keep in mind that you will need plenty of carbs to fuel your runs and replenish your energy.
