Sometimes we make excuses. Sometimes we get busy. Sometimes we get achy. Sometimes we get tired. Sometimes we get frustrated.
All of those feelings have been swirling around in my head the past week. I feel like I do not have time to stop and relax. This is my life. I work full time, I take classes part time, I have a 21 month old, and I train everyday. Then I tweet, blog, and try to do volunteer work as much as possible. It sounds over whelming but it is not bad.
You have to make time to workout for you. No one holds my hand and says ok Colleen tomorrow I'm bringing you to the gym and we will do this. I schedule my workouts now, I plan ahead. I find when I do this I am sure to get it done. I find when I workout I feel better both physically and mentally.
Today scheduling was crucial. I had to work early and I usually spin from 5:30 to 6:30. I only could workout till 6. So last night I set my alarm for 430! Early for me yes but necessary. I got up and went to the ymca early. I spun on my own for 20 minutes umtil class began. I was tired. I did not want to be awake ay at 430 but after that spin class I felt great!
It is not easy, it is not even always fun, but the bigger picture is: I love being healthy, I want to be a role model for my daughter, I want to live without my medications, I want to keep running races. So I will keep training :) seeing that calories burned on my polar hrm was a great way to start my day working toward those long term goals :)
What do you do to make sure you get your workout done?

I wore my running clothes under a sundress last night when I had to go back to school for a meeting. as soon as I was able to get out of there I laced up sneaks and hit the track!
NO MORE EXCUSES!!
MO BS!!
I make sure I never leave the house without my fitbit clipped on to my bra! I look at the weather forecasts to plan ahead good riding days. And i have a calendar I have written in my kettlebell workouts. everything else in between is just a matter of mind over any BS so I get as close to 10K steps a day. No matter what.
packing my workout bag the night before always helps.
Such truth! Good things don't usually come easy but the sacrifice is always worth it. I have kids and a job and it's hard to fit it all in and sometimes I don't or can't...but when I get back to it, I love it all over again. it truly is so worth it.
Hi - How has being a celiac affected your ability to train? Have you ever had severe vitamin/ mineral deficiencies that inhibited your ability to train? How about new allergies occurring? Thanks for the help - Jen
I keep my workout gear, or at least running gear, in the car. So when I have time between the meetings and whatnot, and the weather cooperates, I go running. It's also a nice little break in my long days.
Otherwise I schedule my workouts beforehand and have them in my calendar, which helps quite a bit to avoid the excuse of being too busy. Then I also teach some spinning classes so I must be there, and at the same time I get my own workout - my clients may not always appreciate sharing my workout but oh well ....
And lastly, I also post my weekly workout schedule on my blog. How embarrassing it is if I haven't done anything that I planned...??
Enjoy your training!
Good job Jen!!
Allyson that is a good idea!
Brooke I do that too, or lay my gym clothes out so I have no excuse, and can sleep an extra 2 min ;)
Jen send me an email we can chat about it!
Jen you rock!!! It sounds like you have a great plan
