Workout for tonight jogging with baby!

So we had so much fun last night that I decided to take the baby jogging again tonight! We started out power walking for about 5 minutes and then I just put some fast music on started jogging. It is definitely different than running on the treadmill. Outside it was more fun I think plus having the baby in her stroller was nice. She can enjoy the workout with me even though it is more work for me. That just means more calories! :)
So we jogged and we jogged, we went up hills and down them and all around. It was definetely a nice change of pace from the monotonous gym.So I jogged for about 30 minutes and then did a cool down walk for about 5 more minutes.
I thought I would be done but when I looked at my Polar Monitor it said I had only burned 350 calories. Well that was not good enough for me! I came in and did some weight training with my arms primarily so I do not over work my legs. I also worked on my abs with some exercises from last chance and no more trouble zones. I was happy to reach my goal of 400 calories in under an hour!
So then I did a final stretch and ended the workout with my ISO 100 shake!

So take time everyday to workout. It does not have to be a rigid gym routine! Find something you love to do and you will enjoy working out much more!

Drumroll please... Weigh in day Results are in!

Well there it is!!!! I could not believe it when the leader at my Weight Watchers meeting looked at me and said "how are you doing it?" I was like what, shes like you keep losing!!!! I did not think I was going to do well with being on vacation last week and everything but there you can see it! I lost 4.6lbs and now I am soooo close to reaching another big mini goal for myself to finally get into the 100s! At Weight Watchers you also get a charm for losing 50lbs so I am looking forward to that too.

So I have to lose 2 pounds this week if I want to make it to that 50lb loss next week. I plan to workout daily as I have been and make sure I burn at least 650 calories working out. I am also planning to cut out my night time Weight Watchers ice cream treat. Normally I have one at night and fit it into my points but I am going to try to cut out most the sugars I take in and keep it only to natural sugars like from fruit. Also I plan to cut back on carbs and increase my veggies and protein.

Any other suggestions? I would love to hear them! :)

Workout for tonight jogging outside and more!

So tonight I had the baby till late so I knew I would not make it to the gym.
But of course you cannot let little things stop you! When plan A does not workout just go right to plan B. So while the baby napped I did Biggest Loser's Last Chance Workout. As soon as I finished she woke up.
Now in the past I would have normally just ended the workout there and called it a night. I had worked out for 30 minutes and burned abut 220 calories. But that was not good enough for the new improved me!

I put the baby in her stroller and we went for a long power walk. While I was walking around our neighborhood I began to realize I had a workout area here this whole time and never even realized it. There are hills and I can set my own pace. So we were walking and then I saw I needed to kick things up a notch when I looked at my Polar monitor. So we jogged. And it was fun. The baby enjoyed it and I got a nice workout in!

Remember always have a plan B and be able to switch to it easily!

Workout for today treadmill run and more!

So tonight I was actually quite excited to get back into the gym and burn some calories!
I know we should rest 1 day a week but for me the exercise has become such a force of habit and an activity I look forward to. It is funny I used to think of exercise as a chore, now it has become one of my favorite hobbies.
So tonight I decided it was time to kick the running and miles on the treadmill up a notch! I decided to begin with a stretch routine and then got on the treadmill and set my goal time for 30 minutes instead of my normal 20. I started walking at a swift pace and then did my run and took a brisk walk for 2 minutes in between miles. I ended fabulously at 30 minutes and 2.65 miles. I had burned 308 calories I was so excited!

I could not resist taking a picture to share :)

Then I got on the elliptical and did 25 minutes of my cross training routine for 25 minutes and 1.85 miles.
Then I came home and did my own weight training routine. I combined Jillian Michael's moves in No More Trouble Zones and some others from her kickboxing video as well.
At the end of my workout I stretched my muscles and finished off my ISO 100 protein shake.

I gotta say, I never felt better than after I did after my workout. For me it is all about that adrenaline rush and endorphine release after my workout that has made me a junkie. I feel amazing after a tough workout and I am looking forward to doing it again tomorrow!

And I must admit all of my hard work was worth it when I looked at my monitor and saw this:

That's right!!! A new record breaker for me I burned 750 calories tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tools to be successful including Polar Monitor!!!!

I have the day off from exercise as it is my 1 rest day I take every week today so I thought I would post about the tools I have chosen to help me get fit.

I believe that to be successful in any routine you need tools to help you along the way. Now don't get me wrong, to lose weight and get in shape it does not take fancy gym machines and heart monitors. Really I truly believe all it takes is dedication and hard work. If you commit to yourself today right now that this will be the last time you look in the mirror and feel disgusted and do nothing about it then you can succeed. I know that inside of every over weight, out of shape person lies a fit healthy person struggling to get free. If you allow this person to come out of course it won't be easy, of course there will be challenges but I promise you the reward is well worth it!

So tools for everyone will be different. Some may choose to workout within a gym, even hire a personal trainer. Some may not be ready to workout hardcore and walking is always a great place to begin. Others prefer to do aerobics and exercise videos which are also equally as effective. I am not in any way saying one way is better than the other, I just want to share what I do and use and have made work for me :)

So in the beginning I began by doing Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred. It was very hard doing it at 252 lbs. I promise you I wanted to quit every damn day doing that video. I would yell at the tv, sometimes I even cried because I was so out of shape and just disgusted with the way I struggled doing it. But over time I progressivly got better and better. I started going to weight watchers and I started losing weight. A jumping jack really did begin to feel like a warm up and not a painful breath stealing chore.

Then I began going to the gym. Now not a huge gym mind you just a small gym in my housing complex, 2 treadmills, an elliptical, and 2 bikes and a bow-flex. I began on the elliptical and progressively ended up working out longer and longer. Then I added in weight training. To do this I again turned to my favorite trainer on TV Jillian Michaels. I began doing her No More Trouble Zones DVD and on days I could not go to the gym because I do have a 1 year old here at home I would do the Last Chance Workout DVD.

Honestly working out became easier and easier everyday. I was getting solid results on the scale and I just felt better and more energized. Then I got my favorite tool of all for my birthday in June my Polar Heart rate monitor. It is the FT 7 monitor. Basically it has 2 parts a monitor on a wear link (as they call it) strap which goes around your chest to monitor your heart most accurately and a wrist watch band you wear which transmits your results.

I attribute the push to work out longer and harder to my monitor because I watch it closely now. It shows me what my heart rate is at every second. It also has a feature which displays if I am burning fat or improving fitness. It saves all the data from my workouts and tallies them from week to week. Its nice because I can look back and see how much I am improving. I take a picture everytime I workout and this is what I am always posting.
As you can see it tracks the duration of your workout and give you the calories burned.

Then you can keep clicking and get more detailed statistics of your workout.
Here I have my average heart rate and highest heart rate reached.
Then I have my favorite feature of this model the FT 7:

That's right am I burning fat or working towards fitness? Well now I know!

So if you have any questions please feel free to ask! I shopped around and amazon.com seems to have the best prices for the videos and the monitor so I added them on the blog page in an amazon store if you wanted to check them out!

Elliptical and Cardio Day!!!

So today I cannot run because I ran the last 2 days and it is not reccomended to run every day.
Well I got on the elliptical with a good book and my head phones and set the cross train reverse routine to do 35 minutes and I ended up doing 40 minutes without even realizing it!!! haha I was jamming away and into the book I was reading and I stopped to check how much longer Ihad to go and was amazed that the time was stopped at 35 and I had just been going along. I knew it was 40 minutes and a few seconds from my Polar Monitor.
Then I got on the treadmill and did the hill routine for 18 minutes. For a total of 1.25 miles and an incline average of 3.
I walked home and was getting set up to do No More Trouble Zones by my favorite Jillian Michaels but an add caught my attention and I decided to switch things up! I put on Red Zone Toner Workout with Nicole Eggert. It was a 20 minute minute routine with her and her trainer. It was different than what I am used to but I feel it was a nice change of pace. They combined dynamic moves to focus on your shoulders, arms, core and legs. I did not feel it was as quite of a grueling workout as JM so I am not sure yet if I will do it all the time but it was a nice change of pace. For example I just did not feel my arms were worked enough but my legs and butt are sore so I know different muscles got worked than I am used to. I think I would do the video again on a moderate cardio day like today.

I did not burn as many calories as I do when running but I still did not do bad

Yummy Egg White Recipe!

So when I began my journey to get fit 5 months ago I made a lot of little changes that all have added up to a big change and I attribute this to my success. Well one of those tiny changes was switching to only eating egg whites. Now when I tell many people I love egg whites and eat them almost daily they make this face and always go yuck how can you do that! I look in disbelief like really? I love em! And I am not lying I really do.
The trick with the egg whites is all in how you cook them. Of course they are bland, of course they have much less flavor than eggs. However, with the right spices and veggies you can turn those blah egg whites into an exciting fufilling breakfast.
So this morning I scrambled them up with my veggies and took a picture and thought I would share my favorite way to eat egg whites.

Simple and easy and a great breakfast. See how the veggies blend in with the egg whites and make a nice sauce it softens the toast perfectly!
Chop veggies you want. I used Tomato, zuchinni, and vidalia onion.
Spray pan with spray (I prefer to use a small saute pan to keep everything together I have tried in a bigger frying pan but it dries out)
I saute the onion and zuchinni first about 10 minutes to soften them since they take longer to cook then I throw in the tomato and saute for 5 minutes together when I put the tomato I put in spices I want I usually use garlic powder and a pinch of goya seasoning salt.
Then I put in 3/4 cup of egg whites.
Just keep scrambling it together and let everything cook.
While that is cooking I toast 1 piece of gluten free multigrain bread from All Can Eat Foods (they make the best gluten free bread ever!)
Put the toast on your plate dry (saves points)
When the egg whites are cooked I put 1 slice of Weight Watchers orange sliced cheese on top and scramble it in.
Then I pour the mixture over the slice of toast and viola!
The breakfast is a total of 5 points! 2 for the toast, 2 for the egg whites and 1 for the cheese.
