Making the most of a treadmill

Well it has been a long rough week for me. I have been working 11-13 hours a day and honestly by the time I get home and hold my baby girl in my arms I cannot bring myself to be apart from her for another hour and go to the gym. So I must confess I have not had any hard workouts this week. I did get 2 runs in but that was it.

Tonight I tried a new trick, I changed into my workout gear at work. This made me sit in it all the way home so I got my mind focused on getting some workout time in. Well I think it worked because I got home and kept thinking ok I must go to the gym. It helped that she was napping when i got home. So I grabbed my music and off I went.

Now I knew I would not be able to get in my usual long workout so I got on the treadmill and ran 1.5 miles in 15 minutes. Thats a pretty swift pace for me. Then I started raising the incline all the way up to 10% and did a light job for 3 minutes. This brought my heart rate right up to the high 170s which is what I aim for during an intense run. Well I lowered it and then 2 minutes late I raised it up to 12% and kept going for 5 minutes.

I was winded and I was sweating my ass off! I could not believe the treadmill was giving me such an intense workout. I lowered it again and I made it up to the highest incline of 15% for a solid 3 minutes. It was hell but I kept reminding myself that I needed to dig in and push through. I stayed on the treadmill for 35 minutes and had managed to burn 400 calories!

I came home and did the Shred it With Weights kettle bell workout. Boy it was tough after not doing it for a week. But I forgot how good it truly does feel to sweat your ass off. I always feel so empowered after a workout.

I love my Polar monitor and stay tuned this week I will be reviewing a different monitor it just came in the mail today I cannot wait!
