Ran 3 Miles!!! And signed up for my first 5K!!!

So I signed up for my first ever 5K race!!!!!!! It is in 2 weeks on September 18th! I am both excited and nervous to see how it goes as I have never ran that long in my life! The  Cracker Barrel Race is run every year in my home town so it should be fun! I am debating on whether or not to do it with the baby in a jogging stroller or alone and have her there cheering with her daddy. I think I will do a few trial runs with her and see how it goes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

So I went into the gym today with the excitement of beginning to prep for the race. I got on the elliptical for 15 minutes to warm up and did 1.2 miles.

Then I got on the treadmill and set the goal for a distance of 3 miles. I was not sure if I could even go the whole 3 miles but I just thought hey the worst that can happen is I stop or go to a walk when I cannot run anymore. I think that is the thing with working out and training, our minds doubt the body too much. I was determined as all hell to finish though and just told my body to do what it has come to love to do. I got through the first mile fairly easily and stayed at the steady pace of 5.5 mph. I walked and got a sip of water for 30 seconds and then increased the speed to 5.8 mph for the next mile. I was pleasantly surprised at how it went I could actually do it. I slowed down for another sip of water and set the treadmill back up to 6.5 mph for the final mile. I did not think I was going to be able to finish but, I DID!!!! I finished the 3 miles in 29 minutes. I was shocked at my body and how I could actually do it.

If someone, anyone had told me a year or 2 ago I would be running miles and prepping for a 5K race I would have honestly laughed at them. I would have just said oh no I am not a runner, I can never do things like that. Well now today I sit here still a bit amazed at myself that I am becoming a runner, and liking it. I was smiling at the end of this run knowing I had done something I had never even considered possible. I have achieved greatness these past 6 months and I am looking forward to achieving even more in the next 6 months. I am more energized than I have ever been and I feel better than ever!

I came home and did No more trouble zones because I had so much energy left :)

I ended the workout with some stretching and an ISO 100 protein shake.

I set a new record for myself with calories burned during a workout :) Have I ever mentioned how much I adore this monitor? hehe
